Foreign Car Rental Company from Hell

Auto Europe:

fraud organized by the rentals for who is abroad

Rome, 2010. If you go to Fiumicino Airport and have the opportunity to go through the hall of Car Rental, it will be not hard to pay attention to the presence, just in front of the Avis balcony, of its competitor Auto Europe. Present in many European countries, if you talk with the experts they say to be Sicilians. I reside in Brazil, and by chance, returning to Italy, I came across, if you book a car via the Internet, with Auto Europe Deutschland GmbH Landsberger Strasse 155, D-80687 Monaco of Baviera (Recorded in Monaco of Bavaria, Germany: HRB 149,828 Directors: Niall McDevitt, Detlef Hoffmann) Which, however, it sounds very little Sicilian. I became involved in cheap associated to German efficiency.

The low cost of Auto Europe, comparating with Avis, didn't offer full coverage insurance on the vehicle and the contract just appeared, after the acquisition as Italian Auto Europa, offering a partial coverage on damage or theft of the vehicle (a franchise € 1.200,00). I thought "ok, that is their commercial decision, when I'll arrive at the airport will seek the integration for the coverage.

The trap, however, was just around the corner, ie, upon arrival in Rome of the unfortunate (I) after fifteen hours of travel: According to the experts I had booked with an agency outsourced Internet, which then had also gained a commission on my purchase, and for this option had not received the benefit of only € 200,00 in more for the full coverage on damage and theft. Not having done before, I had to pay now € 400.00 for having full insurance coverage. I declined the proposal, seeing it as senseless and with almost total certainty that it would not have happened, given that the car I was renting just to go from the airport to my mother's house, where he remained parked in a condominium. At the removal of the vehicle, in section C 5th floor (garage of the airport), I immediately recognized that the vehicle I had been intended, a Fiat Panda, had suffered one or more claims, clearly marked on the front bumper (left side) and the left front fender. On check-out sheet was marked an "X" on the front bumper, saying they were "scratching", the other only if I talk. On my refusal to withdraw the vehicle, the attendant, after issuing a series of grunts and showed some faces, placed another "X" on the sheet of check-out, on the left front fender. I never had rented vehicles with low bodywork: the normally car rental companies deliver the cars in good condition.

The charter was to expire at noon on 13 July, being that my plane was leaving for Brazil at 8:00 Italian time: check-in, having to be at 6:00, two hours before departure, and boarding the 7:00. Here I am again with the Fiat Panda in C 5th floor at six in the morning. But, much to my surprise and another client with my own needs, the Auto Europe at that time did not work, even to his own stand. I picked up the phone and called the service center, where explained me that the company would open at 8:00, and that before that time no one could get the car, the practice was, however, leave it parked and put the keys in of the sentry box of Auto Europa sector. So we did, hoping for well. But did not go as I thought. Returning to Brazil after a few days I saw € 6.00 charged on my credit card. I returned the car with a tank of gas, I thought then that they were parking fees, since I had not delivered the ticket of entry into the parking lot of the airport.

After another week, however, comes another charge on my credit card, this time of € 362.29. I immediately called the bank and they told me to come first in contact with Auto Europe to find out what was happening. I called Italy and I explained that the complaint had been made for the damage that I caused to the vehicle on the front bumper and left front fender. They told me that they were unaware of the fact that the vehicle was delivered to me already damaged, because it was not possible to check-in (check) upon delivery. I sent just a copy of the documents on the state of the vehicle at the time of check-out at the e-mail customer.service @ sbc.it explaining what happened and requesting the transfer of the accusation.

After submitting the documents at the internet address they have given me, I notified my bank too about the incident. Therefore I sent all the documents, a summary of the history and copies of the e-mail sent to Italy customer.service @ sbc.it. At first my bank (ABN Amro Bank) accepted the challenge and stayed the charge.

After ten days, however, I have received from Germany a package containing photos and full report of the expert report on damages, in addition to the list of expenses, consisting of: administrative expenses, cost of consultancy and repair of damage that I caused.

The customer.service @ sbc.it never responded. And after six months, as a gift for a good start of 2010, the Bank charged my credit card again with € 362.26, alleging that they were not able to get the denial of the damage, and indeed, the Auto Europe had provided data expert evidence of his right to a refund of the amount.

I ask for me: how many costumers paid for the restoration of that Fiat Panda?

Why, moreover, I had no right to the checking of data by the Auto Europe? The documents in my possession counted nothing: only the contract and their possession of my credit card information counted. The reservation on the credit card, in fact, had already been extinguished by € 6.00, relating to the completion of the full fuel (?? Maybe we went for a ride, or maybe it's gasoline expenditures for carrying by the expert!).

An important observation: the contract signed at the airport does't give me my fiscal code, but of another person, probably the previous client.

Since the Auto Europe is apparently being German, I'm very surprised at the poor organization of information: why I have the check-out documents and Auto Europe no?

I ask for me: if it isn't a bad organization, it is then a scam? Or have we to teach to the Europeans to be organized and honest men?
